2008

October

Lucas has been nominated for the Oscar Peterson Scholarship Award. Each year 5 students from the Concordia University music program are nominated for the award. Nominees will put together a 1/2 hour performance to be judged by a panel of judges on October 31 at the Oscar Peterson Hall.

On October 16th Lucas and Elyssa Mahoney were awarded the Ontario Independent Music Awards "Best Blues Award" for their song "How To Dance" from their CD Pull Me In. This also means that they will get to perform at next years award show to be held in Toronto.

June 6th Lucas and Elyssa Mahoney will be holding a CD release party for there new CD titled “PULL ME IN” featuring 9 original tunes that Lucas and Elyssa wrote together + some other great covers. Should be a fun evening with the full band that worked on the recording at Ken Friesen’s studio in Almonte.

June 24th Lucas and his Jazz Trio will be performing at Confederation Park on the stage close to Elgin St. It’s a FREE Noon time concert put on by the Ottawa Jazz Festival.

July 6th As 2 time winner as well as the overall “peoples chose” award winner at the Montreal Guitar Grand Prix last fall, Lucas has been invited to do a solo jazz guitar performance at the Montreal international Jazz Festival. Start time is 8:30 pm at the SIMMM GM Tent. on the main grounds of the jazz festival.

Sept. 2008

Lucas is back a Concordia University for another year. He will be back at the O'noir Restaurant Sunday nights for another season as well as other gigs around Montreal with his jazz trio.

2007 news

A new CD is on the way ! Lucas & Elyssa have been in the studio and will be relesing their new CD spring 2008. We are planning a CD release party for sometime near the end of May. More information will be coming soon.

This Nov. 17th Lucas and Elyssa will be openning for 2 of the all time great jazz and blues musicans David Fathead Newman & Curtis Fuller ..... Wow!! see upcoming gigs below.

October 2007, Lucas was in the Montreal Guitar Grand Prix contest . He made it to the top 12 finalists, then won 2nd place prize for Jazz Guitar & Acoustic finger style (first time anyone has placed in 2 different guitar styles). Most important to Lucas, he won the overall peoples choice award. Check it out at www.montrealguitargrandprix.com

Lucas had a great Summer! Elyssa & Lucas formed a band called the Elyssa Mahoney & Lucas Haneman Band. This August they play many festivals around Ontario including Festival of the Islands where they opened for Jeff Healey, South Side Shuffle (Port Credit) & Lime Stone Blues Festival in Kingston. They also opened for James Cotton in Carleton Place.

Now back in Montreal for another year of university Lucas is back at the O'noir every Sunday evening. He will be back in Ottawa for his monthly gig the last Saturday of every month at the Mooney's Bay Bistro.

2006 news

Lucas has a new weekly gig in Montreal ! He will be performing as a member of a jazz trio at the O'noir Restaurant on St. Catherine every Sunday. We will have more on this in the future.

Thanks to the great turn out at the Mooney's Bay Bistro Lucas and & Elyssa Mahoney will now be doing a monthly gig there. They are planning for the gig to be near the end of every month. Please watch the up coming gigs for details.

November 20 2006 Lucas will be performing for the Canadian Senate as part of a group in celebration of National Child's Day A Right to be Heard.

October 1 2006, Lucas is now in Montreal attending Concordia University. This fall Lucas received two more scholarships, the Walter & Wayne Gretzky CIBC Scholarship and the Howard Webster Foundation Entrance Scholarship at Concordia University. Lucas will be returning to Ottawa to perform at scheduled gigs through the year so watch the up com ing gigs at the bottom of this page to see where he will be.

June 30th 2006, Lucas's new CD called "New Beginnings" is ready for release!!! 14 tracks of mostly Lucas's solo work of his own creations, there are 3 tracks of cover Jazz tunes recorded with his ALM Trio. The CD is not available at record stores yet, however it is sold at live gigs or by contacting us.

On May 31 2006 Lucas was awarded the Spirit Youth Award & bursary for Arts & Literature. Lucas was also one of the performers at the gala event which took place at the Westen Hotel in Ottawa.

May 2006 Lucas was selected to be part of the Yamaha Jazz All Star Band to participate at this year's national Musicfest Canada, which was held in Ottawa at the NAC from May 15th to the 20th. The band members were made up of the best young jazz musicians from across Canada.

January 31 2006 Lucas was informed that he was the first recipient of the Domenic Troiano Guitar Scholarship. This new scholarship is awarded to a young guitarist that is planning to attend university to pursue guitar studies. There are two scholarships awarded annually, one male & one female.

The scholarship was set-up in the memory of Domenic Troiano and is very special to Lucas because all the submissions were jugged by some of the top guitarist in Canada.

Lucas will be going to Toronto on April 20th to receive his award and to perform in a Domenic Troiano benefit with some of Domenic's fiends. You can read more about Domenic & the scholarship at: www.domenictroiano.com

2005 news

Since leaving his rock band Eppiphane last summer, Lucas has been busy with many projects including lots of solo gigs around the Ottawa area, playing a combination of jazz standards, as well as a lot of his own acoustic guitar tunes.

Another major activity has been playing with theMaria Hawkins Band since September. Maria is well known around the Ottawa area as a great singer, perfromer as well as for her Blues in the Schools program and many other charity causes that she supports. Maria's band is made up of seasoned professionals that play mostly blues as well as some pop and rock tunes. Along with Maria, the band plays many charity events such as the Ottawa United-Way kick-off and the Mayor’s walk, you can also see the band perform at blues clubs in the Ottawa area. Lucas is back with the Napean All City Jazz Band for a 3rd year. The band which is well known across Canada is made up of some of the best young musicians from the Ottawa area. NACJB plays many gigs around Ottawa including the Ottawa International Jazz Festival, and the Governor Generals Summer Concert program. Ahead for this year there is also a tour of Ontario and competing in the National Musicfest event, where the band have always come back with a gold standard. The band is beginning to gear-up for another busy season.
